hi!
It’s August!! In Atlanta, I think summer is the new winter. The heat is so oppressive that it’s hard to get outside sometimes. I wanted to be sure that I got this to you before our alleged “cooler weather” we’re having tomorrow.
A little on your girl Lucy: I went blonde in July. I got back on my SNS manicure train. I feel good about myself- I think hair and nails should be a tax write off. I was asked to be an artist at a hairdressing event in July. It was my first time doing anything like this, so of course there were nerves. But once I started cutting my model’s hair, I just got in the zone and had fun.
In other hair-related news, I have been trying a “weekend braid”. It’s great for gardening in the heat.

I’m thinking about renaming this “The Saltmarsh Garden Journal”, as opposed to a newsletter. What do y’all think?
News on the garden! Our friend has been coming by the back garden with her dogs to give our babies a little dog park. It’s been cute to see them forge their own running paths through the flowers. Our husky doesn’t play well with others but she definitely enjoys her outside time.
We are inundated with jalapeños, the cucumbers just finished, and the tomatoes and one watermelon are still to come. Oh, and our second succession of amazing okra!

And this is only the backyard! The front has been blowing up, too! I’ve never seen so many butterflies and grasshoppers.

GRASS. Scar up areas of bare dirt with a rake before transplanting sod/grass. Clean up flower borders by digging out sod (shallow dig). Move the bricks from the boardwalk patio and scar up the dirt underneath. Replant sod when it is damp outside so you don’t water unnecessarily. Pull up stepping stones in banana grove, scar up dirt, and encourage grass to grow back. You can tell the sod that that it’s doing a great job and that it’s actually the most successful plant on the planet.
Pictured: before and after of bed-edging and transplanting sod. “Chelsea chop” some plants back that have new buds ready for a second show. It’s not the “right season” for the Chelsea chop, but that’s okay.
Chop some flowers back to the ground. Save the seed heads on the plants you wanna see again. We use small mesh bags and tie them off around the seed head.
Bespoke dog park is such a visionary idea✨
